Len Lye: Blade

About

A long-time favourite returns to the Govett-Brewster in early 2018 in Len Lye’s Blade. A seminal work in Lye’s career, Blade is a fan-favourite and has been a highlight of the Gallery’s programme since Lye’s homecoming exhibition Kinetic Works in 1977. Developed in the late 1950s, Blade was one of Lye’s formative kinetic sculptures, inspired by the artist’s ability to shake materials like steel and find the natural modes of vibration. As a student of movement, Lye choreographed these vibrations and motions, automating the performances and making one of the most vibrant and energetic bodies of modern sculpture. Blade’s pounding dance performs in the Len Lye Centre’s Large Works gallery for the first time, to thrill audiences with Lye’s sense of rhythm, motion and sound.   #lenlye #govettbrewster
