All Blacks vs. Argentina

The All Blacks and Argentina have formed one of the most fiercely contested international rugby rivalries in recent years, another chapter of which will be written in Taranaki in September.

Argentina have gone from strength to strength since their introduction to the Investec Rugby Championship, and will be out to make history when they take on the All Blacks in New Plymouth. They have not beaten the All Blacks in 23 attempts since the first match between the two nations in 1985.

The 2017 edition of All Blacks v Argentina promises to be another cracker as valuable Investec Rugby Championship points are up for grabs in what will be Round 3 of the competition. Make sure you book your tickets now to witness this epic contest.

Taranaki: legendary rugby destination

New Plymouth's Yarrow Stadium has been judged the third best venue to watch a rugby match in the world, behind only Millenium Stadium, in Cardiff, Wales, and Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium, accoring to New Zealand Rugby World Magazine.

"It is exactly how you imagine a regional stadium in the spiritual home of rugby should be. In the background is the beautiful Mt Taranaki almost regal in the way it holds itself. That sets the scene, lets you know you are in New Zealand."

"Then there is the ground itself. It is tight. The two stands are close to the pitch and you feel you are almost on top of the action. The players know you are there and it is a shared, intense experience. It helps immeasurably that the locals have a great knowledge of the game and are vocal in their support."

While the award was a few years ago now, Yarrow Stadium has come a long way since then, even hosting three Rugby World Cup matches in 2011. It's a great place to watch top class rugby - but don't just take our (or New Zealand Rugby World's) word for it - come and see for yourself on 9 September, when the All Blacks take on the Pumas!

...and much more besides

If you're looking for a reason to get the family or your mates to Taranaki for the test, then this could be it: Taranaki was judged the world's #2 regional destination in influential travel guide Lonely Planet's Best in Travel awards.

The award praised everything from the Len Lye Centre - a spectacularly shiny art gallery in central New Plymouth - to the city's impressively vibrant social scene to the stunning walks on Mount Taranaki.

The eateries will both surprise and delight you, and if you need to stretch your legs or arms beyond the game then bring the bikes or the surfboard and hit the Coastal Walkway or Surf Highway 45.

If it's been a while since you've checked out Taranaki, then this could be just the excuse you need!
