Taranaki - Like No Other
RWC 2011      Adopt-a-second-team
Adopt-a-second-team

A great way to raise the profile of your business in the Taranaki community is the Adopt-a-second-team programme.

One of the community engagement initiatives for Rugby World Cup 2011, Adopt-a-second-team is designed to link Kiwi communities with the 19 overseas teams competing in the Tournament.

Taranaki is hosting three Rugby World Cup 2011 games, and five national teams:

  • Ireland v USA on 11 September
  • Russia v USA on 15 September
  • Wales v Namibia on 26 September

We encourage you, your families and your businesses to welcome these nations by showing your support and adopting them as your second team (behind the All Blacks, of course).

There are plenty of ways you can do this, from dressing in their national colours, decorating your home or business to welcome teams, or learning their national anthem and how to say ‘hello’ in their language. Adopt - a-second-team activities have already begun in the region, with schools competing in a series of team mascot races as part of the recent Rippa Rugby tournaments - the first race was saw Vogeltown School win with their Namibian mascot. The final race is on Wednesday 29 June at Stadium Taranaki - mascots will race through an obstacle course to claim the prize for their school.

There will also be a programme for New Plymouth retail areas to adopt a visiting nations and decorate accordingly - more information on this will be out in July.
