Taranaki - Like No Other
LiveAndWork      Getting a job in Taranaki
Working Here

Taranaki is a great place to live, work and play.
Here are a range of resources to help you get a job in the region 'like no other.'

Job landscape

Job opportunities are available throughout Taranaki. Between 1999 and 2008, economic growth and, in turn, employment growth, was driven by migration and an increase in people participating in the labour force.

If you are looking for work there are a number of avenues to follow, and getting a visa or coming to New Zealand to meet with employers face to face will improve your chances of success. There are, however, also many internet job boards to consider, in particular the Taranaki Regional Jobs website
www.taranaki.info/jobs.

Labour Market Information

The Department of Labour website contains a wealth of knowledge on employment health and safety rules, regulations and tools, links to Immigration New Zealand and immigration facts, figures and reports, labour market information including statistics on employment and unemployment, analysis and insights including reports, factsheets, research and tools, plus an employment relations section providing information on holiday and parental leave entitlements, minimum wage, employment agreement builders and employment policies, laws and legislation. www.dol.govt.nz

Statistics

On the Statistics New Zealand website you can browse for a range of statistics on economic, social and environmental information including population, work and income, education and training, health, industry sectors, crime and justice and more. www.stats.govt.nz

Taranaki offers an array of roles throughout its industry sectors – with future growth expected to be strong.

Finding a Job

To find a job in Taranaki, register on the Taranaki regional jobs website where you can get notifications of and apply for new jobs. More than 550 local employers are registered and jobs are updated on a regular basis. For more information and assistance contact Venture Taranaki. www.taranaki.info/jobs

Other avenues include the immigration websites and other national jobs boards, including Seek, TradeMe Jobs and the Taranaki Daily News, among many others.

Salary info

Job listings in New Zealand often don’t indicate salary levels, and it can be difficult to directly compare salaries with those for similar roles in other countries. The Trademe website can help provide you with some guidance. Look up http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-me-jobs/Salary-guide

Accredited Employers

Another avenue for overseas job hunters is accredited employers. These are employers approved by the NZ Immigration Service who can offer jobs to offshore candidates without having to prove that there are no suitably qualified New Zealanders available, or readily able to be trained. They can often provide you with a work visa in as little as two weeks. For a list of accredited employers, visit http://www.immigration.govt.nz/

Converting Qualifications

If you have qualifications from overseas institutes that need to be converted or recognised against New Zealand standards, please contact the NZ Qualifications Authority. Registration with your industry’s governing or regulatory body association is also usually required. www.nzqa.govt.nz

CVs, Resumes and Cover Letters

New Zealand CVs may be quite different to those in your home country. Taking time to write the best CV and cover letter you can is a crucial step in getting the job you want. If an employer likes what they read in your CV and cover letter, they’ll invite you for an interview. For tips on putting together a great CV visit
