Three Taranaki business women have joined forces to help children recover from the disasters in Northern Japan. Sophie Kurota from Sushi Ninja, Emma Puletaha from Crowded House and Jo Blowfield from The Marketing Company are organising a major event to help raise money for children in Japan.
Dance it up for the Kids in Japan will be held at Crowded House Bar on Friday 18 November from 8pm with the “ever so memorable" 80s theme.
Tickets at $5 are available from the above businesses and on the night. All ticket sales will be going to the charity Save the Children Japan, which serves the children of Japan affected by the earthquake and tsunami. The charity is building classrooms, play areas and temporary shelters to give the children a sense of normality. Over 7,000 schools, parks and playgrounds were washed away by the tsunami. Some children have lost their parents and homes from the disaster which killed nearly 30,000 people.
Save the Children Japan have a five year commitment to recovery to help the children via access to education, providing school materials and giving them learning opportunities by using online-tutoring, giving back to the children what the tsunami and earthquakes took from them and providing a safe environment and a sense of normality.
Donations boxes can be found at each of the businesses mentioned above and you can help by donating or buying tickets to this event.
Crowded House and Sushi Ninja have also united to run and walk the 150km Round the Mountain Relay as Team Naki Ninjas to support the same cause. Donations are welcomed.
Now is your chance to dig out your old 80s outfit and let’s dance it up for kids in Japan!
Let’s get into the groove!
